There are many different forms of interviews that an employer can choose from in order to interview you. You will most likely have more than one interview during the entire process that it takes to get hired. The first one or two interviews will not necessarily be the traditional form of interviews, because they have a lot of candidates for the job and traditional interviews would take too long to get through each individual candidate. However, the higher up you get in the interview hierarchy, the more likely that you will encounter a traditional type of interview.

A traditional interview consists of you sitting one on one with an employer. This will usually be the general manager of the store, or somebody who is high up within the company. This will usually be the final interview, and if you can pass this one then you will be hired. Of course, some companies only do one interview in total if they are looking to hire fast so this is not always a steadfast rule.

For traditional interviews you will have to dress smart. You must wear, at the very minimum, business casual clothing. You should find out what the employees of the company wear on a day to day basis and dress one step higher than the employees. Do not get into the mindset that you are over dressed for the interview. A traditional interview means that the interviewer will be judging you on your first appearance that you make. You are in a one on one session, and they are focusing solely on you. You need to make this first impression of you the best you can if you want that job.

During a traditional interview you will also be asked the typical type of interview questions. However, they may also throw in some unorthodox questions to see if you are able to think on the spot. If they are serious about hiring you, they want to know that you are capable of thinking on your feet for a solution rather than being able to spit out answers that you memorized the night before. You should be prepared for any type of answers and stay relaxed otherwise you will be stumbling over your words. The number one tip one can give for a traditional interview is to remain nervous free and do not seem extremely stiff and uptight. The more relaxed you are, the better of an impression you will make upon the interviewer.

If you are unemployed and looking for a job then you know how frustrating it can be. You can apply at twenty different places and not have one of those places call you back for an interview. You may have had your last interview years ago and may not even remember how to interview anymore. Getting that interview once in a blue moon means that you must put your best foot forward to get that job because that opportunity might not come again.

First you should get your clothing for the interview in order. Depending on whether you are a male or a woman will depend on what you wear specifically. However, the standard is that you should be dressed in at least business casual attire. If you have any doubts about the dress code for the interview, you can always research on what people wear to an average day at work and wear something similar to the interview.

When you arrive for the interview you should arrive at least fifteen minutes early. Obviously you should not arrive too early because there might be someone interviewing right before you. However, if you arrive late or right on time this may cause the interviewer to get a bad first impression about you. When the interviewer comes up to you, you should introduce yourself and give firm handshake. The firm handshake is key, because it shows that you are confident. Your body language says a lot more about you then your words often say.

During the actual interview you should appear relaxed and at ease. Do not studder or use words such as “umm” during the interview. If you must, take a pause and avoid saying the word “umm”. You should also have practiced your interviewing questions before you arrived for the interview so that you appear well versed for what they are asking you. You can look up the typical questions before the interview and practice in front of a mirror or in front of somebody you know until you get the questions right. You should also look the interviewer in the eyes and not look away or fiddle with your clothing.

After the interview is done, you must go back home and await the results of the interview. This can be a stressful time, but do not worry because you gave it your best! You will get that job before you know it.

There is no doubt that an interview can be one of the most stressful times of your life. No matter if you are a natural at interviewing, you will most likely feel some nervousness or anxiety before your interview. One thing you should not be worrying about, however, is what you should be wearing to an interview.

What you wear says a lot about you. An interviewer can tell a lot about you from the way you dress, and they use these first impressions a lot more then you think. No matter if you are the best interviewee on the planet, if you make a bad first impression then it is highly unlikely that you will receive the job. First impressions make up of eighty percent of our thoughts toward a person. You can change these impressions of a person over time, but in a fifteen minutes interview you will not be able to accomplish this. This is why you should make the best first impression you can upon the interviewer.

Males should stick to dress pants and a dress shirt at the very minimum while interviewing. The rules of thumb for knowing how to dress for an interview is business casual. You should always be dressed one step higher then the person who is interviewing you. There is no such thing as coming overly dressed for an interview. You will simply show that you are passionate about being professional.

Males should also stick with neutral colors. Wear either black dress pants or khakis and a nice polo shit to match the khakis. There should not be too many flashy colors on you. Males should also shave their faces to appear professional and style their hair in order to keep it out of their face. If possible, get a haircut before your interview. The more clean your appearance looks, the better it will go for you.

Woman have a choice when it comes to what to wear to an interview. Woman can wear a skirt with a business top, or dress pants. If a woman decides to go with a skirt then the skirt should not be higher up then the knees. This way when you sit down, you do not have to worry about showing off your underwear. You want to receive the interview based on your intelligence and your qualifications and not what you look like. You should also keep your hair back and in a ponytail or a bun.

Interviewing is a fine art that takes a lot of practice. Many people think that interviewing is a skill that you are either born with or something that comes naturally to a person. However, interviewing is as much learned as walking or riding a bike. In order to be a good interviewee, you will need to put in a fair amount of practice. The better you get at interviewing, then the better chance you have of getting that job.

During an interview, you will be asked a series of questions that you have to respond to. After the usual introductions you will be asked about your previous place of employment and what your pay expectations are. You should answer the questions about your previous place of employment as truthfully as you can. They will usually call this place to follow up on your answers so it is wise not to lie. You should also not bad mouth your previous employer, because this can make you look bad in the eyes of the interviewer. You should come off as kind and focused on your work as possible. You should know approximately what they expect to pay for this job, and you should not ask for too much. The more you ask, the more the interviewer will hesitate about hiring you.

After these questions they will ask you the standard interviewing questions. These questions you should practice before you arrive at the interview so that you have an answer ready on the spot. You should be able to provide answers almost immediately and an answer of “I do not know” does not reflect well upon you.

Some of these questions are the ones such as “What is your biggest weakness” or “What is your biggest strength”. For questions such as these, you should avoid making yourself look bad. You have to find a way to turn the weakness into a strength for the company. For example you could say something as “My biggest weakness is that I work too hard, and I accomplish too much in a short amount of time. However, I feel that my productiveness could be beneficial to the company”. This way you are naming something that makes you different from other people, and something that the company could also deem useful in terms of a weakness. You want to avoid weaknesses such as being anti-social or not productive and lazy. These make you sound unappealing and that is the opposite of what you are trying to accomplish in the interview.

It is normal to have nerve jitters before an interview. Even those who have previous interview experiences still have the same feelings of uneasiness. To make your job interview a success, you have to learn how to deal with interview nervousness.

Interview anxiety usually happens because of the release of adrenalin due to your brain’s ‘fight or flight’ response. Although this aid in making you alert, it also triggers interview anxiousness. Some of the manifestations of interview anxiety are: pounding heart, shaking legs, trembling hands, hand sweating, shortness of breath, headache & feeling nauseated.

Your interview nervousness can be managed by doing these interview tips from Interview Consulting:

Do an interview practice before your interview. Preparing for an interview include rehearsing the interview process with a family member or friend. Let the friend ask you frequently-asked-job-interview questions. Likewise, you should prepare your interview answers to these potential interview questions. Be sure you know all that you wrote in your resume.

Make research on the company, its culture, organization, kind of industry they belong to and the position you are interested in.

A good interview preparation is to get enough rest and sleep for 8 hours the evening before your job interview.

Relax yourself by means of relaxation breathing. Before leaving your home for the interview, breathe deeply though your nose and exhale through your mouth. Repeat this for 6 counts. Also swing your arms and hands and rotate your shoulders clockwise, then reverse it to counterclockwise.

Make it a part of your interview training to mentally rehearse that you have the right skills and qualifications for the job. Be confident of yourself.

Come to your job interview dressed in proper interview wear. This will impress your interviewer and aid in boosting your confidence.

Before going to your interview have a proper meal and eat your foods like any regular meal.

Check the documents like resume and job descriptions you will be bringing to the interview.

Make sure you arrive early at the place of interview so you have some time to freshen up and relax.

Think of happy and positive things prior to the interview. Tell yourself that you will handle the interview successfully. Visualize that you are doing your best in the job interview.

As you enter the place of your interview take slow deep breaths. Doing so will control the oxygen amount in your body, helping your body to relax. It will also create a more focus mind and is essential to handle your interview anxiety. With this strategies, hopefully you will face your interviewers less nervous and more at ease.

When you are called for a job interview, the interviewer already knows about you because your resume is already with them. The interview is a way of evaluating your suitability for the job. Thus, during the interview, the interviewer observes your behavior, personality, and how you answer to interview questions.

As your interview consultant, we at Interview Consulting would like to share these free interview tips on how to ace your face to face interview. To start with, prepare for an interview by wearing a proper interview wear. Upon reaching the company, be friendly with everyone you encounter. When you meet the interviewer, firmly shake hands with him. Do not sit down until you are instructed to do so.

As your interview coach, we give you these tips for a good interview: be yourself during the interview and don’t lie. An experienced interviewer can easily notice if you are not telling the truth

An important interview tip is to maintain a direct eye contact with the interviewer. If it is a panel interview, look at each interviewer as you give your interview answers. Speak clearly and properly enunciate your reply to typical interview questions. Stay calm and convey that you are confident. Maintain a good posture by sitting upright and avoid fidgeting. Build rapport with your interviewer.

When the interviewer ask typical interview questions, do not just answer yes or no, but provide some details or explanation. Focus on your achievements and capabilities as you will be assessed if you fit well with the job.

During your conversation, nod your head if needed, to show your attentiveness. Gestures and non-verbal communication add effectiveness to your words. If there is something you don’t understand, ask for clarification.

Make inquiries regarding the company and its culture. Also, include in the questions to ask interviewer, what specific jobs are you being considered for. Although you indicated in your resume the position you applied, you may be interviewed for other positions. Inquire on future career opportunities. This will let them know that you might stay with the company for a long time.

Discuss about the salary only toward the end of the interview. If you are ask what salary do you expect, a good answer will be, you are hoping for a salary that is fairly level within the industry. At the end of the interview, as the interviewer extend the goodbye handshake; express your interest for the job. Give thanks to the interviewer and the receptionist before you leave the office.

Interview consulting, your interview coach would like to impart to you valuable job interview tips and techniques on making a follow-up after your job interview. One most important interview tip is to send a thank you note to your interviewer within twenty four hours after the interview. While there is no consensus among employers whether a thank you letter will boost the chance of a job candidate with his/her job application, many believed that a thank you note is of utmost importance.

By sending a thank you note, you are reiterating your interest in the job. It is also a way of showing gratitude that you were given the chance to interview. Through this letter, you can remind the interviewer regarding your qualifications for the job. Also, the thank you letter provides a good opportunity to discuss important things that your interviewer failed to ask during the interview, and also to enhance or expound your interview answers to interview questions asked by the interviewer. Furthermore, it is way of manifesting excellent manners and proper interview etiquette. Thus, when you make your thank you letter, be extra careful of its contents. It should be a sincere expression of thanks to a prospective employer. Review the letter several times. You may send your thank you note by mail (either typed or handwritten) or thru e-mail to all your interviewers.

Besides the thank you note, another interview tip and technique is to make a follow-up after your job interview. The job interview follow-up can be done thru e-mail or by phone. At the end of your interview ask the interviewer when you can make follow-up on your application. If you were not given a definite date to follow-up your application, our interview tip is to wait for about a week before contacting the interviewer.

When having your follow-up call, a significant interview tip and advice is to thank again the interviewer and emphasize your interest in the job. Once more, mention your specific skills relevant to the job. Verify if you are still considered for the job and when will be their final hiring decision. When inquiring about your application status, be courteous and show professionalism.

In case your follow-up inquiry turns to be on the negative side, don’t be discouraged. Be patient. Continue to do your job search. Who knows that there will be a better opportunity in the offing!

Nowadays, initial screenings of job applicants who will be called for a face-to face interview are being done mostly thru telephone interviews. Interviewing by phone saves time and cut down on expenses especially in cases of out of town applicants. Since Interview Consulting recognized the importance of a phone interview; we would like to share with you some phone interview tips.

Preparing for a phone interview is just like an in-person interview. Make research on the company and the job you are applying for. List typical interview questions and be ready for your answers to interview questions.

In case the interviewer calls you at an awkward time, request if you can talk with him/her on some other time. To ensure that you and the interviewer fully comprehend each other’s words during a phone interview, better use a landline phone rather than your mobile phone.

Start your phone interview preparation by having a simulated interview with a family member or friend. Record your practice so you will be able to hear how you answer the interview questions and your voice quality over the phone. This can help you review your interview answers as well as lessen your filler words such as “ohs” and “ums”

Before the job interview, close the door; turn off the TV or the radio and your phone’s call waiting to avoid unnecessary distraction or noise. Also, studies revealed that a proper mind set boost confidence, so dressing up in proper interview wear is also recommended even if its just phone interview.

And while talking to the interviewer, sit down in an erect position or stand-up so you can speak easily. Be articulate with your answers to interview questions so the interviewer will have a good impression of you.

During the phone interview, hold a copy of your cover letter, resume and a copy of your previous job description and accomplishments. Make notes on the important points you want to emphasize with your interviewer such as specific skills and experiences. There are times that job titles don’t correspond with job descriptions. Be ready with a pen and paper in case you need to take down notes.

Remember, a phone interview is as vital as an in-person interview so you need a thorough interview preparation. The way you project yourself to the phone interviewer is a deciding factor for you to be invited to an actual personal interview.
