When you are called for a job interview, the interviewer already knows about you because your resume is already with them. The interview is a way of evaluating your suitability for the job. Thus, during the interview, the interviewer observes your behavior, personality, and how you answer to interview questions.

To start with, prepare for an interview by wearing a proper interview wear.  Upon reaching the company, be friendly with everyone you encounter. When you meet the interviewer, firmly shake hands with him. Do not sit down until you are instructed to do so.

An important interview tip is to maintain a direct eye contact with the interviewer. If it is a panel interview, look at each interviewer as you give your interview answers.  Speak clearly and properly enunciate your reply to typical interview questions.  Stay calm and convey that you are confident. Maintain a good posture by sitting upright and avoid fidgeting. Build rapport with your interviewer.

When the interviewer ask typical interview questions, do not just answer yes or no, but provide some details or explanation. Focus on your achievements and capabilities as you will be assessed if you fit well with the job.

During your conversation, nod your head if needed, to show your attentiveness.  Gestures and non-verbal communication add effectiveness to your words. If there is something you don’t understand, ask for clarification.

Make inquiries regarding the company and its culture. Also, include in the questions to ask interviewer, what specific jobs are you being considered for. Although you indicated in your resume the position you applied, you may be interviewed for other positions. Inquire on future career opportunities. This will let them know that you might stay with the company for a long time.

Discuss about the salary only toward the end of the interview. If you are ask what salary do you expect, a good answer will be, you are hoping for a salary that is fairly level within the industry. At the end of the interview, as the interviewer extend the goodbye handshake; express your interest for the job. Give thanks to the interviewer and the receptionist before you leave the office.
